Potere and sapere can both be translated with the Englis verb can, but they don’t have the same meaning.
Potere says that we have the physical ability or the permission to do something.
Sapere says that we know how to do something.
So, as you can imagine, we cannot use them randomly. We have to choose the right one when speaking Italian.
