Learning some basic Italian pronunciation is more necessary than we think. Sure, we can mispronounce from time to time and be understood anyway. However, there are a few sounds we need to learn if we want to be understood when we go to Italy.
Two of these sounds are the ones of the consonant group SC.
We can pronounce this group in two ways:
with a soft sound /ʃ/ or with a hard sound /sk/.
We can’t pronounce the word pesce (fish) the same way as we pronounce the words scuola (school). Similarly, we can’t pronounce the word scatola (box) the same way as we pronounce uscita (exit).
So, this video lesson will show you how to know when to use the /ʃ/ sound or the /sk/ sound.
