How to say how are you in Italian (and how to reply)

How to say how are you in Italian (and how to reply)

There are various ways in which you can ask how are you in Italian.

If you’ve read my previous posts about how to say hello and goodbye in Italian, you surely remember something important:

you need to take into account the level of formality when speaking in Italian.

If you’re in an informal situation, you will need to ask a certain question. Similarly, you will need to ask a different question if you’re in a formal situation.

Sure, there is a way to ask how are you in Italian in a neutral way.

However, you cannot always get away with it. Therefore, learning how to ask the right question in the right situation surely helps in order to communicate more effectively.

Don’t assume that this is difficult or impossible. It’s actually easier than you think.

The same happens when you have to answer that question properly.

Sure, there are different answers you can give. However, they’re super easy to remember and, most importantly, they’re based on how you’re feeling.

It is super important that what you say mirrors what you feel.

If you’re feeling great, you have to say you’re feeling great. Vice versa, if you’re having a really bad day, you have to say how you’re truly feeling.

It’s perfectly socially acceptable to say you’re feeling bad, so feel free to use this possibility.
