Have you ever tried to improve your Italian listening skills on your own? How did it go? Most importantly, how did you feel?
Most of my students find it a bit overwhelming when they try to listen to some podcasts or shows in Italian.
They find it too fast and then they feel lost for not having any written text to follow.
Here is the thing. When you are training your listening skills, you cannot begin with a fast-paced recording.
I always recommend this formula, the same one that I use in the Speaking Practice Club for “False” Beginners.
- Listen to a slow recording
- Listen to the same recording at a faster pace
- Combine listening and reading
It’s always a good idea to start slowly, increse the speed and then check with a text if you actually understood what you heard.
The most important thing is that you do it several times.
You cannot expect to catch every word at the first take. However, you can begin by focusing on the meaning at first, and then slowly focus on every word.
Now, are you ready to start training your listening?
Play this video, listen carefully and then check the text at the end.
